Standing at six feet even Leon is all muscle. Raised as a warrior, he was trained from birth to be the greatest slayer his clan had ever seen. His hair is an unruly mess of brown more often than not, hanging loose about his face. Across his face is a massive scar running from above his right eye, across the bridge of his nose and ending just beneath his left eye. When revealed, his body has a myriad of scars that tell the tale of a lifetime of battle. He weighs in at about 180lbs with not an ounce of undue fat on his body.
His clothing style is simple and functional. He wears black cargo pants tucked into his boots, with three leather bands around his right thigh. Around his waist are two leather belts forming a loose X shape that he generally attaches his weapons to. His upper body is clothed by a simple white t-shirt, with a leather jacket with a faux feathered collar. About the middle of his chest rests a silver necklace of a lion’s head open in a roar of defiance, symbolizing the strength and courage he forever strives to achieve and maintain. His hands are usually clad in black leather gloves that end around his wrist. Across his chest he also wears a bandoleer of bells, the third weapon in his armament, rife with flowing runes and symbols not since seen for millennia.
His Angelic form is used only rarely. Wings of brilliant white erupt from his back, feathered and giving off their own brilliant light. His eyes glow with an azure power and an aura of white flames surround him, burning away the undead arrayed against him. While in this form, a pure white hood covers his head, and his body is encased in armour. He’s adorned with golden pauldrons, gauntlets and greaves, with an angelic chain shirt of pure white.
Personality:
Raised as a hunter of the undead, his usual personality to those he doesn’t know is described as cold and distant. Despite this however, he’s one of the fiercest and most loyal friends one could have. He views most everything in an analytical light, but he always strives to be kind and caring to those that need it. He views the world through a somewhat jaded and cynical lens, due to the nature of his upbringing and all the darkness he’s seen, but he never lets it stop him from doing the right thing, no matter the consequence.
Gamaliel is an angel of strength from his home world, and as such, is generally not great at social interactions. He believes in amassing power for the benefit of the people, recovering long since lost artifacts to wield against the darkness, and forever standing vigil against those that would seek to destroy humanity. When he does interact with others, he must use Leon’s body to do so, but is kind and caring as well. Despite his natural tendencies, he is an angel, and is always willing to help those in need.
Special Abilities:
White Magic- As a Paladin of his home world, he’s extremely adept at white magicks. A powerful caster, he can casts spells of healing and protection. He also knows spells of greater damage to things of an evil nature, wards and even the ability to resurrect his fallen allies on occasion. The last however takes a lot out of him, leaving him weak and defenseless more often than not.
Angel Form- Due to the Angelic soul within his body, Leon has the ability to take on the form of an angel, granting him greater powers and abilities, as well as regeneration, and an aura of white fire that is especially effective against the undead. It boosts his physical abilities greatly as well, and enhances his magical power.
Heliomancy- The ability to manipulate and control light, granted by the angelic leaders of his realm. The light can be used to craft weapons and armour more powerful than their mundane counterparts, or wreathe his existing arms and armour within light.
White Fire Control- Much like the commonly seen Pyrokinesis, this ability allows him to create and control white fire. White fire is a pure flame that has the ability to purify that which it comes in contact with, heal his allies, or bring great damage to the undead and those of an evil nature.
White Fire Infusion- Along with the infusions of rune stones within him, they also infused the man with white fire into his very blood. This burns away poisons and corruption from his body, sealing his wounds closed and healing them quickly. Should some dark beast ever try to feed off him, they find themselves engulfed in the flame, burning from the inside out.
Soul Fire- A powerful magical source also granted by the angels, this allows the use of small portions of Leon’s soul to reinforce his magic. While it can be used in offensive ways, it really shines when creating things, as it is the very fires of creation.
Blessing of Serra, Reya, Akroma and Radiant- Granted by the Planeswalker Serra, leader and creator of the angels of Dominaria, this blessing grants him increased strength beyond mortal ken. Reya granted greater Endurance to the man, making him strong enough to withstand trails of faith and war. Akroma gave him greater Agility, making him faster than mortal men, allowing him to face his supernatural foes on even footing. Radiant granted him the blessing of keen intelligence. This guarded his mind from the assaults of foes, helping him to remain calm no matter the scenario and think much more clearly. (Angels Canon- Magic the Gathering)
Rune Infusions- A long forgotten art, the angelic leaders infused his body with rune stones of great power. His life span has been greatly increased as a result, it bolsters his magic to make it stronger, harder to negate and less taxing on his body. It helped extend his control over light and fire as well, making controlling more of the element easier for him, and less taxing as well. It increased his stamina, giving him the ability to fight for what seems an eternity without tiring.
Light Barrier- A barrier crafted of light and reinforced with soulfire. From the arcane runes on his palms, Leon can create an as of yet impenetrable barrier of light, allowing him to shield whoever he can fully before slaying the beast that threatens the peace he’s long fought for.
Weapons:
Lionheart- The gunblade given to him by a vampiric ally of his clan. This weapon has been by his side for the better part of a decade, and has always seen him through the toughest fights of his life. A three foot blade of blessed silver and ensorcelled for the destruction of the dead, this weapon has become his signature icon. Heavily enchanted as well, it can bypass mundane armour to strike at bare flesh with ease, transferring white fire from blade to eat at flesh. (Canon- Final Fantasy VIII)
Vampire Killer- The Heirloom whip of his clan. Crafted by Ranaldo Gandalfi for the patriarch of his clan by means of alchemy and spellcraft, this whip was granted to him at his coming of age ceremony. Fifteen feet of leather, the blade has been imbued with alchemical properties to deal greater damage to the vampiric race his clan has so long fought. (Canon- Castlevania)
Armour:
Radiant Circlet- A golden circlet inlaid with brilliant diamonds that grant Leon the ability to see in any lighting as well as bright daylight.
Ward of the Faith- A shining cloak of the purest white. Forever clean and well maintained, this cloak bestows several abilities on its bearer. It protects them from the elements, making elemental effects less of an obstacle. It also keeps the body at a constantly warm temperature, providing protection from natural freezing or burning, such as an arctic tundra or blazing desert, and also has the ability to shrug off magical spells cast at its wearer. Once per year, it can also raise the wearer from the dead.
Angels Stride- Soft, white leather boots armoured in angelic steel. They increase the wearers movement vastly, giving him the ability to teleport short distances.
Hand of Atropos- Brilliant armour of the purest angelic steel. This armour allows the wearer to solidfy light and make clones of himself from it to fight at his behest. It gives off a resplendent aura of the brightest light at command, turning the darkest night into day. Mundane arms are rendered dust against this armour and unprotected flesh is shredded away in retribution. It also has the ability to change fate itself, protecting a person from death once in their life.
Gauntlets of Atlas- Golden gauntlets that reflect the sunlight in a blinding array. These gauntlets confer massive strength and speed upon its wielder, making him more than a match for any foe he might meet. They also give him the ability to reflect or deflect spells or projectiles hurled at him.
Griever- The silver pendant in the form of a lion’s head open in a roar of defiance. This pendant has been slowly accumulating life force that Leon has poured into it over time, allowing him to tap into it to regenerate his own body or that of someone else if need be.
Sanity- A simple loop of silver that protects the wearers sanity.
Ring of the Healer- Through use of this ring, the wearer can remove curses or hexes placed upon a victim, restore life and begin to repair lost sanity.
History:
Born in the mountains on the southern border of Loraderon, Leon was raised by the Belmont clan. His was a clan long dedicated to the eradication of the evils that plagued the night, such as vampires and their ilk. From a very young age, he was raised to be the best slayer of creatures of the night that he could. From birth, he had the soul of the angel Gamaliel within his body offering his support and wisdom to help overcome the trials that he faced. Outwardly, he was trained by his father in the forests at the base of the mountain. Gamaliel, for his part, came to reside within the child through an act of benevolence on his leaders’ part. Leon’s mother had been a powerful paladin in service to the angels and had died in child birth. For all the service and loyalty she had shown them, Serra, creator of the angels had placed Gamaliel within the boy to look after him and help him grow as his mother would have wished, in honor of her memory.
However, despite the angel within him, the boys life was a harsh one. His father had been a great slayer of their clan, and had loved his mother fiercely. When she had died, he blamed Leon for her death, and made sure that the boy knew this in no uncertain terms. Because their clan had dwindled low, Leon’s father was the only viable trainer, and each day he brought Leon to the very precipice of death, letting the boy crawl off into the woods to fend for himself, with only Gamaliel to aid him as best he could. If not for his only friend, the child would have died years ago in that snow covered forest, and his long career cut short. But because of his father’s lessons and Gamaliel’s wisdom, the boy grew and learned much faster than any normal child. He was taught how to survive with nothing but what he could scavenge in a near death state, and he became all the stronger for it.
Years would pass as his father taught him the ways of the sword and whip, taking pleasure from beating the lessons into his child, leaving countless scars. Finally, at the age of fifteen, things had changed for the young man. The elders decreed him a man in accordance with their custom, and when he’d announced his intentions to leave the village of their clan and pursue his role as a hunter, his father had snapped. As Leon was preparing his meager belongings in the small home he’d built in the forest, his father assaulted him for their final battle. It was a cold, rain sodden night that they battled in. Wind howled fiercely and lightning flashed while thunder roared over head, each fighting with every ounce of skill they owned. Gamaliel flooded the boy with all the power he could muster, but tragedy struck them. The rain slicked earth had become mud on their battle ground, and Leon had lost his footing. His father’s blade descended with fury as he finally decided to claim his vengeance upon the man for claiming the life of his wife. The blade tore through the flesh of Leons face, fire erupting along his skin as his blood splattered the earth, creating the massive scar that would become his icon. Blinded by blood and pain, he let Gamaliel guide his hand, and his desperate thrust pierced his father’s heart, ending their struggle.
When he’d returned to the village, the elders revealed that they knew all along what had been transpiring in the so called training sessions, and swore that they would have helped if they could. However, as the last of his line, Leon needed to be stronger than any that had come before him. They bestowed upon him their heirloom whip, Vampire Killer and bade him farewell as the man took his leave of their village. He travelled across Dominaria for many months before coming upon a place known as the Pillar of Light.
Upon his arrival, the angels guarding the entrance to Serras realm smiled, and bade him enter. Here he had been received as a long lost friend, and granted audience with their ruler. She revealed that she had been watching him from a young age, and had been impressed by what she had seen. Despite the torments and agonies he’d been subject to and witnessed, he had grown into a man willing to stand sentinel against the darkness, no matter the cost. Upon conference with Gamaliel, they had agreed that if Leon was willing, they would train him further. She granted her blessing to him, and released the restrictions upon Gamaliel to allow him to fully grant the man the use of his power, now that he could be trusted with it.
For years within Serra’s realm the man trained with the angels who became as a family to him. They taught him all their skill with blade and magic, granting him every advantage he could against the darkness, molding him into their ultimate champion, for they knew that darkness would once again threaten the world they loved. Upon his formal completion of his training, he was granted the title of Serran Champion, and acted as a mortal agent for them. He was also granted arms and armour in accordance with his new station, and a final few blessings. The other angelic leaders granted their blessings to the man as well, and all came together for his final gifts. Infused with raw magic and runes tones, they made him more than a normal mortal man, and granted him the gift of heliomancy and control of their own angelic flames.
Humbled by the great gifts they had given him, the man knelt before all the angels of the realms and vowed to them that he would make himself worthy of their gifts, and forever stand guard against the dark, and travel wherever needed. He vowed to faithfully serve them, and never turn from his cause no matter the odds that faced him. With his new found powers, he was returned to Dominaria, where he became the mortal champion for light. Many times over the years darkness had encroached the land, and every time he’d stood against it, a single bastion of light in a sea of darkness, when all hope had been lost. He’d fought world ending monsters, demonic invasions, threats from other planes of existence. He’d fought against the armies of undead marshaled by the Lich King in his frozen fortress, slew the mighty cabal of necromancers that threatened the lands of Dominaria and even fought against the horror of Yawgmoth and his nightmare legion of biomechanical abominations.
Finally, after many years of war and bloodshed, he was once again called by the angel Serra, who held fear in her voice. She told him of the world of Genesis, where realities were converging, and some great threat loomed up to destroy all of creation and pleaded with him to travel so far from home for the world he loved. Without hesitance he agreed, and marched solemnly onto this new world, ready to combat the forces of darkness once more.
