Getting Started [Please Read - Updated: 1.20.13]

Hello and welcome to the Character Creation Board of DoA. If you are new and about to fetch the Character Template to make your own character than please read the below guidelines as they'll help you get started. First the Character Template is as followed,

Now let's break it down.

Here we have the basic info section of the Character Template. What we're asking here is self explanatory and should look something like this,

Name: Maricul
Aliases: The Seductress
Age: 560 (looks 18)
Gender: Female
Species: Vampire
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Canon or Original: Original
Date of Birth: Winter of 9526DM
Place of Birth: Aircano

And it should not look something like this,

Name: He has no name, no past, no future. He lives in the moment.
Aliases: He would not waste time with creating such meaningless names for others to call him.
Age: He has no true age, some says he's as old as time itself.
Gender: Neither man nor woman, he has parts of both but belong to neither.
Species: He is many things yet nothing.
Alignment: No true alignment to speak of.
Canon or Original: He is of the canon of creation and all things bound to it.
Date of Birth: Nobody knows when he was born. It could have been the Winter of 10GA, or the Spring of 55DM or even yesterday at 5:00PM from a painful delivery that made the mother wished she hasn't decided on a natural pregnancy. But who knew that the kid was going to come out feet first?
Place of Birth: He was conceived in Isafaro but his parents moved to Hallowton where he lived out the first trimester. But then some asshole in a blimp bombed the place so they moved to Kari to live out the second trimester. But Kari was a woman's name so they went to Aircano because it sounded more like a location. Until the priests there found out that the man and the woman weren't married, declared the child a bastard and chased them out with rocks. From there they went into the desert which was full of demons and finally gave birth somewhere between the desert and mountain regions.

Now the problem with the above basic info is that a lot of that could have been summarized with an 'unknown' or 'n/A' wrote out in that field. And nobody cares where you were while inside your mother's womb if you were between the desert and mountains region of Jherra. Then say you were born between the desert and mountain region of Jherra.

For physical appearance all we ask is for either one well written paragraph of description or a picture. Any thing more is entirely up to you. Special Abilities are simple enough, just think of all the things your character can do, which part of these are special and then list them. If it's something as basic as superhuman strength or speed you don't need to go into much info about them. If it's something largely unknown or something made up then please, explain them.

Another thing to keep in mind is that no matter what kind of character you're playing, canon or original, your character has a Life Force (click here for more information on the Life Force) long story short if you don't have a Life Force your character can't exist and wouldn't be accepted.

Weapons have the same basic rule as special abilities. Something as common as a sword or a semi-automatic handgun doesn't need much diving into. If it's something entirely made up then please explain it for us.

And finally last, but certainly not least, is the most important part of the bio: the History. The section that molds your character and gets them ready for the role playing experience. The best way I could use to describe it is like an Origin Story. Include any and all relevant information about your character, how they got to the point they are now and then end it with wherever you plan to jump at RP wise and you'll be ready to go. All we ask is that it's no shorter than two paragraphs and doesn't exceed 60,000 characters.

For canon characters please refrain from copying the wiki.

After completing a character bio and getting it accepted you must have at least one finished thread with that character before you apply for another one.

If your application is left sitting untouched for 30 days it will be moved to the Rejected section, should you return and like to try again PM a member of staff for it to be moved back to the main board to be finished.

Note: You'll notice we don't have personality in the template. That's because many people here believe in 'show don't tell' when it comes to personality. You can show us what your character is like in the history section itself and later on in the RP. If you want to include the personality field that's all right too. Just put it under Physical Appearance and again no less than one paragraph.
